GLAUCOMA
Glaucoma is a family of diseases, resulting in damage to the optic nerve and irreversible vision loss. The vision loss often occurs in the periphery first, and most patients have no symptoms until the disease is advanced. Patients with risk factors such as a family history, history of elevated eye pressure, or other findings found on exam should be closely monitored. Management typically involves eye drops to lower the pressure inside of the eye, but may also include laser and surgical treatments.
